Postdoctoral Fellow - Institute for Cell Engineering

The Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our NIH-funded pediatric surgery research group directed byDr. Shaun Kunisaki, an affiliate member of the Institute for Cell Engineering.

Maintains and makes necessary adjustments to equipment, e.g., calibrating, alignment

May be responsible for routine operational activities such as ordering supplies and materials, reviewing inventory, maintaining up to date records of tests, maintenance of human and animal welfare protocols

Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures

Maintains and improves training procedures and is responsible for training entry-level employees on relevant techniques

Additional responsibilities may include instructing/assisting students and postdocs contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies

Strong oral presentation and writing skills, resulting in manuscript development, drafting, and submission as first author or co-author

Travel may be required

Schedule flexibility to include occasional weekend and holidays commitment may be required

Other duties may also be assigned

Education & Experience

PhD or equivalent degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.

Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Relevant techniques include histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, PCR, microarray, next generation sequencing, rodent surgery,

Ability to reprogram somatic cells towards pluripotency and to maintain induced pluripotent stem cell culture

Willingness to learn new techniques

Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work

Comfortable with handling small animals

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment

Ability to work on multiple assignments, set priorities, take initiative in defining and executing tasks, exhibit flexibility to respond to casual requests, exercise good judgement

Cancer Digital Pathology and Machine Learning in Immuno-Oncology

Seeking an independent and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work inDr. Sulam’s and Dr. Popel's laboratoriesin the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University.

The successful candidate will join a team that combines computer vision, machine learning and computational and quantitative systems pharmacology to discover biomarkers for immuno-oncology and immunotherapies.

Specific skills include strong image processing and computer vision background, machine learning expertise and deep learning experience; experience in medical applications of machine learning is a plus.

Applicant must have a doctoral degree with a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published or accepted in premier journals.

Qualified candidates must be able to work independently, demonstrate outstanding communication skills, have a strong commitment to science, and work well within a group.

US citizens, permanent residents or holders of an F1/OPT visa with at least six months of work authorization left.
